Let’s talk about being an Ausländer: Book and short film presentation
Join us for a book launch, short movie, and *drum roll* an Ausländer Pub Quiz!
Author Ash Aliyeva will be celebrating the launch of her book, Always an Auslaender in a fun filled, relatable night.
*PLEASE NOTE: Given the current political climate, we are here to share our general experiences in a fun filled, light-hearted evening, as well as share our appreciation of our current lives in Munich. We are not here to cause massive political debate. Anyone who attends in order to start a fight or harass ‘Auslaenders’ will be removed immediately.”
Here’s the agenda for the night:
Movie – 10 minutes
Book presentation – 15 minutes (AR + book parts reading)
Panel/interview about the book and film
Pub quiz – Auslander theme
And about Ash’s book:
There are over 280 million immigrants in the world – more than 10 million in Germany alone. For many, home is one of the most complicated words in existence. Through real stories and Augmented Reality, this book offers a glimpse into the life of an immigrant defined by political and socio-economic unrest, growing hostility, and the weight of being an Ausländer. Possibly forever. This story isn’t just mine; it’s that of friends, colleagues, and strangers I’ve encountered and interviewed on this journey – real people with real experiences. From the crushing bureaucracy that reduces you to a mere number to the deep longing for a home that may never love you back, these tales are about more than just moving abroad. They capture the essence of finding your place in a world that doesn’t trust you. Whether you’re flipping through pages or immersing yourself in the interactive content, you’ll experience the highs, lows, and deeply human moments of those who dare to dream of belonging.
About the short fil, “I do not know you”:
Alice arrives in a different country and starts a new life. She experiences joy and pain, meeting new people and feeling completely alienated. Alice changes, forgetting her inner child and “the life before.” A few years later, she tries to remember.
